  That Old Feeling
by David & Eileen Smotzer

What fun it is to watch the “high school crush” play out among our teenage kids. . . the coy banter on the phone; the awkward invitation followed by the cautious acceptance for the first date. His posturing and her primping as they prepare for the big night – and that absolutely electric moment he first sees her as she walks down the steps . . . the tomboy transformed into a vision of incomparable beauty.

Last month we tackled this concept: Here we are, with free nights on our hands, sometimes diminished libidos, and each other. What do we do now? Is it time to reinvent ourselves, or rekindle our romance?

Our solution for the weary libido is simple. It’s called “Date Night!” How about it, gentlemen? When’s the last time you phoned your lady to ask her out on an honest-to-goodness date? And ladies, just how exciting would it be to pick up the phone and hear him ask that question that used to give you butterflies in your tummy – “do you have plans Saturday night? I’d love to see you.” Posture – primp – do it up big! Make it special, from your outfit to your attitude. Put away the day-to-day “junk” – focus on each other. And do something you haven’t done since way back when: a late night stroll on a sandy beach? dancing under the stars? a trip to the zoo? Make it memorable!

Rely on your memories, and your imagination, to conjure up all those emotions that used to turn you on – then revel in the moments before, during, and after the date. Your next assignment will be to maintain the energy and the enthusiasm that date night is sure to create for each other. Maybe reinventing ourselves together is the right way to rekindle our romance. We think you’ll be surprised by just how easy it is to recapture “that old feeling.”
